2005 Season

The season will begin for Division 1 with the Federation Cup on 27 February while all other grades commence the league season on 16 April.

ANU FC training for Divisions 1 & 2 will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 24 January at 6:30pm. All players are welcome to try out for the top two grades, however, even if you are not interested in the top grades Steve Kininmonth will organise an impromptu gallop in the first week.

Training for all other teams will commence on 31 January and will also continue on Mondays and Wednesdays. As always, North and South won't be available until cricket finishes in March while the SRA can't confirm whether we can use Willows just yet. I'll let you all know about grounds as soon as possible.

Coaches have been organised although there are still some vacancies. The committee has decided that we will definitely seek to enter a single team in every grade from Division 1-7 and Masters Division 2 (eight teams). Last year, however, we had ten teams so we will be prepared to enter extra teams in any grade except Division 1 depending on (a) the player quality; (b) player demand to enter a team in that grade; and (c) availability of a coach and manager. Confirmed coaches are as follows:

Division 1 - Darren Viskovich

Division 2 - Cristian Torres

Division 3 - Robbie Bennett

Division 4 - vacant

Division 5 - Iain Warner

Division 6 - Jim Dawson

Division 7 - Sachind Naidu

Masters Division 2 - Pete Foley

Proposed Constitutional Amendments

Purpose of the General Meeting: to consider and vote on proposed amendments to the ANU FC constitution to enable the club to be incorporated.

Benefits of incorporation: the main advantages of incorporation are that committee members or general members of an incorporated body will not be
held PERSONALLY LIABLE for:

*         the debts of the ANU FC; or
*         the negligent acts or omissions of other committee members or general members.

Please note, incorporation does not protect the individual from liability for his own negligence.

In addition, incorporated bodies can:

*         sue and be sued;
*         own land and chattels;
*         make contracts; and
*         receive a bequest or gift from a will.

Members should also note that recent changes to the ACT Soccer Federation's (Soccer Canberra) constitution will require all clubs that wish to
participate in Soccer Canberra run competitions to be incorporated or deemed to be a legal entity.  In other words, incorporation is necessary if we
want to play soccer in season 2005.

Major changes: a summary of the major proposed changes to the ANU FC constitution follows.

1.       reference to the Associations Incorporation Act 1991 has been included (ss.4, 5, 13, 33 and 39).

2.       a new section dealing with the nomination of members has been included (s.6).

3.       the cessation and resignation of membership has been addressed (ss.7 and 8).

4.       new sections deal specifically with membership fees and liability (ss.9 and 10).

5.       provisions providing for the disciplining of members have now been inserted (ss12 and 13 - these provisions are for members that persistently
         and wilfully act in a manner prejudicial to the interests of ANU FC).

6.       a section providing for the removal of committee members has now been included (s.23).

7.       the sections relating to voting, Annual General Meetings and General Meetings have been significantly expanded to better describe
         members' rights and meeting procedures (ss.22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32).

8.       two provisions relating to sourcing and managing ANU FC funds have been included (ss.33 and 34).

9.       a section now explicitly states when the ANU FC's financial year will end (s.35 - this coincides with SRA reporting requirements).

10.   references are now made to a common seal (s.36), custody of club books (s.37) and the dissolution of ANU FC (s.39).

11.   the SCUM and the position of SCUM Editor is now officially recognised (s.40).

A copy of the new version of the ANU FC constitution (complete with all proposed changes) can be seen here for your information.  The current version of
the ANU FC constitution can be found on the ANU FC website at http://clubs.anu.edu.au/clubs/ANUFC/constitution.htm.

What does it all mean for members?  If you pass the proposed amendments to the constitution:

*         the club can become incorporated, with all the benefits that entails;
*         incorporation will enable us to play in future Soccer Canberra competitions;
*         members' rights and responsibilities will be explicitly stated in the club constitution; and
*         ANU FC procedures and practises will be consolidated in the club constitution for the first time.

Procedure: there will be an opportunity for members to speak on these proposed changes at the General Meeting.  The ANU FC committee proposes to
conduct ONE VOTE on the proposed amendments as A SINGLE PACKAGE OF CHANGES to the ANU FC constitution.

If you have any queries please contact either:

ANUFC Win 'Keg to the City' Challenge 5:3:
ANUFC has taken out the first of hopefully many 'keg to the city' challenges 5:3. The victory places those playing Canberra City in round 1 in good stead, just remember to thank them for the drinks. For most it was a pretty good way to end the pre-season. It was good to see some new faces down at the RSL, as well as the more familiar ones, for those that didn't manage to get down, not to worry the RSL's open every Saturday so after your weekly game head down for a few drinks to celebrate a victory, drown a few sorrows and catch up with the other results.

Derby Day:
With changes to Soccer Canberra, the infamous ANUFC v ANUFC derby will only be seen in Div 7 this year. For those of higher divs or those newer to the club, for many a year the ANUFC derby game has been one most tightly contested and passionate fixtures of the season, with some rating a derby win and the ensuing bragging rights more important than making the finals. With both teams likely to continue their good form from last year, it's likely we'll see both teams see some September action. But for those that can't wait for September, haven't seen a derby game or feel like reminiscing over derby games of old check out the derby between Slim Jim's Div7 Blue take on Sachan's Jaffa's in round 1.

Inaugural ANUFC v Canberra City 'Keg to the City' Challenge:
The inaugural ANU FC v Canberra City Challenge will be staged on Saturday, 3 April. The concept behind this event is to promote club spirit by playing as many ANU FC teams as possible at the one venue on the one day in place of Club Day. This year almost the entire club will be matching up with their counterparts from Canberra City for bragging rights as Canberra's best senior league club and a $200 BAR TAB.

Yes, you heard correctly, the club that loses more games throughout the day will buy the other a $200 BAR TAB. All ANU FC and Canberra City members will be entitled to drink from the tab to coincide with the Arsenal v Manchester United FA Cup Semi Final which will show on the big screen at the RSL Club that night from 8:30pm.

Apologies to Masters but the Canberra City Masters have already arranged a game for that weekend. However, you are more than welcome to come along on the day and support your comrades. Also, Canberra City have only one Division 7 team, therefore, ANU will field a combined Division 7 team (exact details to be sorted out between Jim and Sach).

VENUE: ANU South Oval

Kick off Field 1 Field 2
10am Div 5 Div 7
12pm Div 4 Div 6
2pm PL Reserves ANU Div 2 v C. City Div 3
4pm Premier League ANU Div 1 v C. City Div 2

Conditions for each match:

• Two 45-minute halves;
• Canberra City will book and pay for referees;
• Unlimited interchange, but will need to check with the referee;
• Each team will provide an assistant referee to run the line (except for the PL match which requires atleast one official assistant referee);
• Each team will provide a match ball;
• ANU will provide change rooms;
• ANU will run a canteen.

A canteen will be run to encourage players from both clubs to stick around after their game and watch their comrades play.

After the game head down to the RSL to celebrate the start of a new season, have a few quiet beverages and settle in to watch Arsenal beat Man U in the FA Cup semifinals.

G&G Army and Upcoming Fixtures:
To all ACT Australian Soccer supporters (& future Green & Gold Army supporters)

The local ACT chapter of the G&G Army needs to start to be organised. With the ASA being active in organising regular games for the Socceroos, the Men's World Cup Qualifiers on soon and the Olympics just around the corner, there is a lot on.

Part of the strategy to get behind Australia's national teams is to have a co-ordinated approach. That means sign up to the Green & Gold Army on www.ggarmy.com/  NOW - . It only takes a few minutes and the main benefit from this is that you receive the regular 'Socceroos' newsletter which details up and coming events.

Bus Trips Away
For games in Sydney - Macca would like to organise buses (as was done for the Olyroos game versus NZ in January).

Contact Macca now to indicate your interest (with the number of people and suburb you live in) for the 2 games below.
NSL GF on Sunday April 4 (see below) - Parramatta Stadium. This will be an historic occasion with the final NSL game being played. It should be a cracker.
Socceroos games v Turkey - in Sydney on Friday May 21 @ Aussie Stadium & Melbourne on Monday.

Costs are usually around $25- each (without the entry ticket included)

Televised Games in Canberra
At the moment Macca is investigating a few options in which the GG Army can meet up for various telecasts of games of interest. This will hopefully be a bar where there is a BIG screen and a coffee machine! (plus possible brekkie options). In the meantime do not forget about -

Socceroos v South Africa - telecast live by SBS from 4.30am Wednesday March 31

Planned brekkie gathering include the Champions League Final, FA Cup final and the Euros later on this year.

2003/04 Homeart NSL grand final at Parramatta Stadium on Sunday 4 April tickets are on sale Now

Registration Details 2004
The rego process for non-students has changed from previous years in that non-students will need to obtain their own SRA membership, PRIOR to registering with the Club. As an SRA affiliated club, all of our members must be members of the SRA.

BECOMING AN SRA MEMBER

If you are not a student or an SRA member already then you will need to go to the ANUSRA Office in your own time and obtain SRA membership ONCE A COACH HAS SELECTED YOU BUT BEFORE YOUR REGO NIGHT.

If you are a graduate of any university and played for the ANU FC last year
then you will need to pay $120 and present your old SRA membership card (if possible).

If you are a graduate of any university and new to the ANU FC then you will need to pay $120 and present a copy (not the original) of your degree or academic transcript.

If you qualify as an Associate Member (you don't fit into any other category, however, you either play in the PL squad, coach or manage a team) then you will need to pick up an Associate Membership form from the SRA Office and contact a committee member to sign the form. Once the club has approved Associate Membership then you will need to pay the SRA $120 and present your old SRA membership card (if possible). For people in this category you need to ensure that you will allow yourself ample time to pick up the form, have it signed by a Committee member and then present it to the SRA. You will need to do all of this BEFORE coming to registration night. If you attend registration night with the form only (and not a current SRA card or receipt) you WILL NOT be registered.

BECOMING AN ANU FC MEMBER

Once you have become an SRA member then you MUST come to your team's allocated registration night or the committee and your team manager might not be able to register you. Registration will be held after training at the RSL Club on the following nights:

·    Premier League and Reserves - 8pm Monday, 23 February

  • Divisions 1, 2 & 4 - 8pm Wednesday, 24 March
  • Divisions 5, 6 & Masters - 8pm Wednesday, 31 March

·    Division 7 - 8pm Wednesday, 7 April

When you come to your rego night you will need to fill in the following forms which will be provided on the night. Please bring cash or cheques, as no EFTPOS facilities will be available, and photos as specified below. Students will also need to bring their valid student card while all others will need to bring their valid SRA card or receipt from the SRA if the card has not yet been presented to you.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

The fee rates are higher this year due to:

·        an increase in personal injury insurance costs of $40;

·        an increase in SRA fees of $10; and

·        a commitment by the club to build a soccer‑specific facility on campus (full details in the Club Plan 2003-08 which will be released soon).

SHORTS AND SOCKS

·        Shorts and socks will not be automatically provided this year;

·        New members MUST buy club shorts and socks which will be sold on your registration night at cost price (shorts at $17 and socks at $7). If you do not have the EXACT club shorts and socks then you will not be allowed to play.

RAFFLE TICKETS

·        You will be given 50 raffle tickets early in the year to be sold at $1 each by the end of the season;

·        It is critical that you sell these tickets in order to keep membership costs down.  Prizes will also be awarded to teams that sell the most raffle tickets.

Ways to reduce your fees

You can lower your fees by:

·        selling chocolates for $40 (you can buy a box of 40 chocolates from the club for $20);

·        returning your playing shirt at the end of the season and getting your $35 shirt deposit refunded; and

·        securing a club or team sponsor (for further details contact VP, Lee Gordon, at work on 6271 5438 or at lee.gordon@pmc.gov.au and stay tuned to the SCUM).

ANUFC Social Comp:
The ANU Football Club (ANU FC) will run the Social Mixed University Football Competition to provide opportunities to play football (soccer) at a social level for university students and their friends.

There will be no training sessions, no coaches and no expensive registration fees! For just $50 per player you can enjoy a full season of football with your mates on the ANU campus.

Venue, dates and times
Matches will be played at Fellows Oval (next to Chifley Library) on campus at the Australian National University.

The competition will begin on Sunday, 2 May 2004 with seven rounds to 20 June. Following a six-week midwinter break, the competition will resume on 18 July and conclude on 29 August.

Depending on team nominations and the resultant vagaries of the draw, there might be a specific Finals Gala Day on Sunday, 5 September, where medals will be given, deposits returned and a BBQ will take place.

Matches will kickoff on Sundays at either 2:30 or 3:45pm at Fellows Oval.

Draw
The draw will be issued to nominated team contacts on Thursday, 8 April 2004 at the latest.

Registration
Teams must register and pay their entry fee by Monday, 5 April 2004. Registrations are on a first come, first served basis, so don't delay in sending your money and forms (p13-15 of the SCUM).

Cost
The costs are $50 for each player with a minimum of 15 players needed to form a team. The team manager is to be responsible for the collection of monies from players to the organiser. The bond is 10% of your total team payment and this will be refunded after the completion of your final game.

Bond conditions
Teams will be required to provide 2 match officials on a number of nominated occasions throughout the season (refer to draw). On each occasion that a team fails to provide a match official, they will lose 1/4 of their bond.

Insurance
For insurance purposes, the ANU FC strongly recommends that players are either ANU Sports or Recreation Association members (application forms are available from the front counter of the ANU Sports Union, North Road ANU Campus) OR have their own private health insurance coverage. All ANU students who have paid their GSF will have personal injury insurance coverage.
Players who are not students or SRA members must fill in an indemnity form (at the end of this document) before being allowed to play and as part of the registration process.

Playing rules
• 9 players per team
• 6 players required to start a match (<6 = forfeit)
• Unlimited substitutes
• Unlimited interchange
• Players can be either male or female
• 30 min halves with a 5 minute half-time break
• No offside
• Sin Bin in place of yellow and red cards
• Shin pads compulsory
