Anarchy

Coach - Ranse McLean

7th August 2005 - ANU Anarchy (2) v Radford (2)

Very exciting game.

Radford started off strong, scoring in the first minute. Anarchy had the better of the play in the first half however we weren't able to finish it off with a goal. Radford gave away a number of penalties from handballing and in the second half they gave a direct penalty away in the in-goal area. Sally scored a great goal from this penalty - levelling the scores to 1-1. Shortly after the Dunn girls continued their good form from the previous week with some good passing which resulted in Jen scoring a brilliant goal from the left hand side of the field. Anarchy held our 2-1 lead until the final minute where in controversial circumstances Radford scored. Several of the Anarchy players appealed to the ref as it appeared that the ball had only touched the top bar and had not crossed the lines. Unfortunately the ref wasn't influenced by the appeal and the game ended up 2-2.

24th July 2005 - ANU Anarchy (0) v Canberra City (3)

The enclosed field at UC was new turf for the team and with Jen’s birthday to celebrate both players and hobbly coach were hungry for a win.

Both uni and city took time to settle into the game, with much of the play sitting in midfield and neither team dominating possession or shots on goal. The first ball in the net favoured city, after some frantic scrambling in the box. Determined to keep heads high, uni strung some passing sets and runs together but unfortunately ½ time came before we could capitalise. At ½ time as the girls refuelled on Amy’s treasure box of sweeties, Ranse fired us up for the second half. We had after all held city to 1 goal and done a good job of shutting them down and boxing them in. Notes to take into the second half included an effort to jockey and slow down play rather than diving in, clean passes, more talk and to have confidence in one another. City came out fighting right from the whistle and had us under pressure for the remainder of the match. Both teams had shots on goal but city capitalised twice bringing the eventual score to 3-0. Uni tired towards the end of the second half, allowing city to dominate and play their game.

It was another unfortunate loss for the team against the table leaders. However the result had a positive influence on turnouts to Tuesdays training session and fired the Anarchy girls up for the following weekend’s match against Belwest White.

19th June 2005 - ANU Anarchy (0) v Tuggeranong (3)

This game started off in shambles, as people arrived late and some not arriving at all. The Cold WET weather didn't lighten our moods, and neither did the muddy pitch. Once we had got enough players together and found a strip to wear, we rushed on to the field to face Tuggeranong. We started off really well. Stringing nice passes together and challenging for the ball on all areas of the pitch. However gradually our sprirts were dampened. With numerous possibilities to score our attackers dropped their heads as nothing seemed to go their way. Again, like last week we found it difficult to get back in time to defend- and watched Tuggernong play the ball around us. With slippery ground and agressive takling unfourtunatly both our wingers were injured and had to come off the field. One with a broken rib the other a seroius leg injury who was carted to hospital. Thanks to Serina and C'C- who filled there positions were stayed in the game! Al! l up everyone put in a fight today- especially Lyndall who saved a few screamers and got kicked in the jaw!! However, due to lack of turn out at training, injuries and confidence, ANU came out as second best- with 3 nil.

12th June 2005 - ANU Anarchy (0) v Belwest Red (3)

The final score of this game did not reflect the fight we put up against Belwest or the quailty of the game. It had been raining for a few days, and the pitch was in pretty poor condition, which didn't help us either! We started off with fire and enthusiasm but after awhile lost condifence and energy- and watched Belwest play the ball around us. We just weren't making it to those 50- 50 balls. However after half time with the score at 1 nil against us- we picked up our game quite a bit. We began to compete for the ball and put more pressure on their defense. Towards the end of the game everyone was getting a bit lazy and after a strong attacking sequences we weren't getting back to defend in time. This lack of energy and will power cost us two goals. So in summary we didn't play our best game- but challenged them! I feel that we need to work on fitness and our attacking sequences (working with midfield)

We Luckily had the support of both Nikki and Ann from premier- who played great games.

No one was very happy after the game, as they felt they could have played better!! :(

29th May 2005 - ANU Anarchy v (Bye)

22nd May 2005 - ANU Anarchy (2) v Radford (0)

“The sun is high, the grass is riz’- where the hell is my other sock?!”, I thought as I readied myself for the long trip down to North Cooma (a.k.a. Calwell). As everyone knows you have to be prepared for any kind of weather down in Calwell. Even if it’s sunny just over in Tuggeranong, chances are it’s pouring rain (or even snowing) in Calwell. Despite all this Calwell managed to turn out a beautiful soccer day for us.

As we were booting up, Ranse gave us our pep talk for the day, “Ok guys, we’re playing Radford today and as we all know they are currently at the bottom of the ladder. They have only scored 2 goals so far this season so you guys will walk all over these little school girls.”

And what proceeded to happen? What always happens when you’re playing the underdogs. Those little school girls came onto the field all fired up and tried to run rings around us with their speed! (and possibly succeeded a little :) ).

Radford controlled the speed of the play for the majority of the first half, but thanks to a strong defense with Donna as the backbone, we were able to keep them scoreless.

Libby was the first to score in the first half of the game with a brilliant goal from her corner kick. Jen hassled the Radford wings down the right hand side not giving them an easy run down to our defense. About half way through the second half we got a penalty due to a handball in Radford’s goal square. Amy stepped up to the task and proceeded to place the ball very confidently into the right hand side of the back of the net, only to have the goal disallowed due to the referee claiming that Tori had moved off the line before the kick was taken. Unfortunately, on retaking the penalty we were unable to convert.

With the aid of Selina from ANU SL2, Tori scored our second and final goal for the game. Luckily it bounced into the back of the goal as it just clipped the inside of the right post.

So as a final wrap up for our trip to “North Cooma”- we went, we played, we won!

15th May 2005 - ANU Anarchy (3) v Belwest White (1)

So it's Sunday evening. I have the ultimate pleasure of washing the grubby, smelly shirts of ANU Anarchy and so I stand here, vacant-eyed in front of my new washing machine (it's brand new and I'm in love - it plays tunes!), and as I stuff the thing with soccer kit i can't help but replay our recent victory. As far as I can tell the game went like this..

ANU Anarchists tromp off the field red-faced, puffing - grinning. That's because we won you see. ANU Anarchy defeats Belconnen White 3-1. Has a nice ring to it doesn't it.

But to the game! We all turned up - although one Anarchist is off to Ghana - or somewhere- so was doing some pre-anarchy planning, and another great Anarchist was "borrowed" by Prems. Luckily subs were garned from 2nds and did an outstanding job - special thanks go to Ester and Honor and Kim and Donna. Chars! Yea gods! I just ran into the goal keeper's jersey. Where was I? Ah yes - the game!

The tone is set with an early goal, set up by Sally grabbing a penalty and Trilby driving that right past the goalie. Nice. Our past week's training seems to be working as our passes are much tighter than last week and our midfield is placing balls right at the feet of the forwards. It's not too long that a corner is awarded in our favour and Sally appropriately embarasses the goalie with an easy "I'll just plonk it right behind you in the goal box then" kick from the corner. ANU two goals up. After the forward line and mid-field maintains pressure on Bel-White's defence Trilby steps up - and lobs one, and it gently floats into the top of the box. Bloody Pearler. That'll be three goals thanks very much and that takes us to half time. For the rest of the game our defence was strong, Sarah Brittle stepped up to the play the role of sweeper, and through good talking the backs and mids linked up some great runs downs the wings. ! Sally was talent scouted by the AIS gymnasitics team for her double-twist-pike- round-off with an impressive grass stain as proof. Amy provided energy to the front line right up until the whistle.

And so that brings us back to the sideline at full-time where Ranse seemed happy with our game and the rest of us huffed and puffed - albeit grinning. Oh and somewhere in there Belconnen White scored a goal (but one is more distracted by the cheerful tunes of my washing machine as it tells me I should add washing powder).

8th May 2005 - Canberra City (3) v ANU Anarchy (1)

On Mother's day, Sunday the 8th May, we (the ANUWSC State 1 "Anarchy" side) lost to Canberra City 3-1. Canberra City scored their first two goals in the opening fifteen minutes as we struggled to get into the rhythm of our own game. The remaining 75 minutes was evenly matched with Mel scoring for us mid way through the second half - the first goal to be scored against City this season. We will take from this game the need for better passing, fitness, and agression to the ball, if we are to reach our goal of being competitive and having fun this season. We wish to give a big thankyou to the State 2 players who helped us out this week: Cassie, Serena, Jacqui, Honor and Kath, and would like to issue a friendly shove to the Premier side to stop borrowing our players. All in all we had good game and we were able to take some positive and negative aspects out of it to work on at training.
