Green Living: On Campus

Other groups on campus

As well as the Environment Collective, the Sullivan’s Creek Catchment Group also operates on campus, monitoring the water quality of the creek that flows through the middle of the ANU.

The Resource & Environmental Science (RES) Society is an interdisciplinary society run by students to provide the ANU student body with a forum to share environmental knowledge and ideas, and to host events which provide access to all spectrums of the field of resource and environmental science. For example at Professionals' Nights students can obtain a personal insight into the many careers in environmental science by listening to a wide range of environmental science professionals. In the past these speakers have included forestors, members of non-government environment organisations, environmental policy planners and rangers, just to name a few. Any student of the ANU is welcome to join the society. RESS contacts are Kumalie Elford email s3159845@student.anu.edu.au or ph 6259 6509 and Matthew Walker email s3177971@student.anu.edu.au

The ANU Earth Charter Group aims to raise awareness of, and encourage participation in the development of, the new Earth Charter document. This document is being developed to reflect principles of environmental justice, and is hoped to act as a guide to the actions of governments and organisations the world over that wish to be environmentally responsible. See the ANU Earth Charter web site (http://eca.anu.edu.au/ecasp) or email ec_anu@hotmail.com for information on what’s going on at the ANU.

If you’re interested in the broader issues of human rights, social justice, or animal rights, other groups on campus such as Community Aid Abroad, Amnesty International, Red Cross, and Animal Liberation could be for you. To find up-to-date contact details, check out their web pages at http://student.anu.edu.au/Clubs or ask the administrator in the Student’s Association office.
