Politics
Political decisions often shape the future in tangible ways, making it an area to be remembered when working for the environment. The campaigns section has more information on influencing political decisions as a parliamentary outsider. Most political parties have environment policies, which you may be able to have some input into.
For a party springing from the environment movement, The ACT Greens is a registered independent political party which operates as a member body of The Australian Greens. The Greens aims to further a vision of the world characterised by peace, social justice, ecological sustainability and grassroots participatory democracy. It aim to foster a long-term view in Parliamentary politics where short-term politics are the norm. It is currently represented by one member of the ACT Legislative Assembly, Kerrie Tucker. Current campaigns, aside from all the issues passing through the Assembly, are focussing on World Trade Organisation issues and Genetically Modified Organisms. Members can be involved in policy-making, lively discussions, information sharing, stalls, running the office, and general campaigning. General Meetings are on the 3rd Monday of the month, 7.30pm in the Fireside Room, Havelock House, Northbourne Ave, Turner. The Mon-Sat.
